Life changes overnight for
coach John Harrison (Kendrick) after he loses his basketball team and is
challenged by the school’s principal, Olivia (Shirer), to coach a new sport he
doesn’t know or like. As John questions his own worth, he dares to help the
least likely runner take on the biggest race of the year. Filled with a
powerful mix of faith, humor and heart, this inspirational story will have you

A Christian school teacher-coach, played by Alex Kendrick, loses his basketball team after several families move due to the town factory closing. Because a black girl named Hannah Scott is interested in doing cross country, the school assigns him to be the coach for a 1-person cross country team. But he discovers, as he’s getting used to this new role that isn’t a natural fit for him, that he can have a special ministry to Hannah, whose father has been discovered—she thought her parents were both dead, which is the story her grandma she lives with wanted her to believe. The movie takes you on her journey toward understanding her identity and innate value as God’s creation, and after she has that issue solved in her mind, she’s able to pursue excellence as a runner since her value won’t be hurt if she doesn’t win, removing the psychological barrier she had in running and thus making her a real competitor in the cross-country race. There is nice humor added throughout the movie and a really creative way Alex Kendrick’s character is able to keep her motivated in the cross-country race. See the movie if you want to find out!
