Check out our Lego Ninjago ornament project.
You'll need
- 1 quart applesauce
- 10 oz cinnamon, ginger, allspice, or other yummy-wintry-smelling spice
- colorful ribbon
- cookie cutters
- large bowl & cookie sheet
- toothpick
- Using about 1/4 of the dough at a time, roll dough to 1/4-inch to 1/3-inch thickness between two sheets of plastic wrap. Peel off top sheet of plastic wrap.
- If you can't find a rolling pin, you can use a quart-sized mason jar in a pinch.
- Cut dough with cookie cutters. Pull away extra dough, then carefully transfer cutout to waxed baking sheet with a spatula.
- Using the spatula, straighten up any sloppy edges around the cutout.
- Make a hole at top of ornament with the toothpick.
- Bake 2 1/2 hours. Cool ornaments on wire rack.
- Using a clear spray paint or gloss paint, varnish the ornaments. This is optional, and will make them last longer.
- If you want that spicy smell, however, then skip this step. They won't last as long, but they'll smell heavenly!
- Insert ribbon through holes, and tie to hang.
oh, these always smell so good! :)
ReplyDeleteWe enjoy making ornaments but haven't done these in several years. I should do some this year. I love how you tied it into your studies.
ReplyDeleteWhat a great idea! How lovely everything must smell.
ReplyDeleteI like that they give away something they have worked on and created.
ReplyDeleteThis is a wonderful idea!
ReplyDeleteI have an extended family member make these with her young kids. I hear they make the house smell amazingly festive. I'm going to try them. Great idea to add to your studies.
ReplyDeleteI once got an ornament from a coworker that was made like this. It lasted a couple of years and I always loved pulling it out and the smell of Christmas it gave. I have not yet made them with my kids yet. One of these years!! I have seen another recipe that uses glue instead of applesauce, I wonder if that changes the longevity?
